Whenever it comes to using samples, a nasty and boring
task comes along - finding them! It's often the unique combination of
wisely chosen sounds, which makes up a gorgeous song - selecting them
tastefully is an art.
But the more samples you have to choose from - be it on sampling CDs in
different formats, or files somewhere on your harddisk - the less you
feel like an artist when trying to find what you need. Digging through
large sample collections is more like organizing bills for the annual
tax declaration, than like making music...
The biggest problem here is the fact, that samples tend to be distributed
over many different locations: there
may be quite a number of sampling CDs, e.g., and you surely don't want
to switch CDs for two hours just to find that special drumloop, no?

You need it immediately - SampliFile knows where
it is

SampliFile introduces powerful relational database technology
into your sample management. It can store all of your samples and sounds
in one
place!
The key feature here is the way SampliFile archives your sounds: it stores
everything there is! Including all audio
data, all program parameters, all loop information, the sampling rate,
everything.
What does that mean? It means, you can listen
to each and every single sample, each sound, each everything, without
the need for the original CD!!!
Imagine having all sounds you posess only a mouse click away! But it's
not only samples! All program information (LFO's envelopes, filter settings,
tuning, keygroup mapping,...) are fully stored within the database.
Now what does this mean? It means you can actually
play all of your sounds with your MIDI keyboard without having
the CD at hand! SampliFile contains a powerful software sampler with an
onscreen
keyboard for that purpose. Imagine you have an AKAI S-1000 CD full
with hi-quality pianos on it. You could play melodies with each of these
piano sounds to check out which fits best - without the need to insert
the original CD anywhere! If you have found what you need, you see where
it is immediately - now you can put the
right CD in, jump directly to the right bank and open the right sound
in a few seconds!
That way you can listen to all your sounds and samples very very quickly.
Total random access, no CD switching, no nasty load times, no small sampler
displays, no confusion!
SampliFile eats all of your stuff: sampling CDs in AKAI™
S-1000 / S3000 format, data CDs,
audio CDs, mixed
mode CDs and your local filesystem with WAV-
and Pulsar sampleplayer files on it.
Another important key feature of SampliFile is the way it stores the audio
information: it uses a compression engine with widley adjustable compression
schemes - an average AKAI CD uses no more that 30 or 40 MB in the
database.
So how can you find what you need? We've seen SampliFile let's you browse
your whole sample collection, let's you play every sound through the built-in
software sampler, let's you audition every single sample and shows you
all available information
about the stored contents (loops, keygroup mapping, program parameters
like envelopes, LFOs,...). But you also can do powerful
searching! You need drum sounds? SampliFile knows how they
look like and selects them for you. Need a smooth pad sound? SampliFile
chooses sounds that might fit. Know (part of) the name of your desired
sound? With SampliFile you can do wildcard based serch for sample / program
names.
SampliFile has lots of other features which make life easier: it can replace
lossy compressed audio in the database automatically with the original,
if you insert the CD (for exporting 1:1 uncompressed audio); it can automatically
send programs to a SF2™-compatible SoundCard for zero-latency realtime
preview in the song context; it can store as many CDs as fit onto your
HD.

upload sample media to the internal database
including all media contents (also the audio data)

 |
reads AKAI S1000 and S3000 CDs,
Pulsar generated '.s' and '.p'-files as well as WAV from removable
or fixed file systems and audio CDs / mixed mode CDs |
 |
no need for any compression
when archiving fixed filesystems since audio data are taken directly
from their source location in that case |
 |
audition all database contained
samples and audio CD track regions ('slices') |
 |
play all database contained
programs with the onscreen keyboard or through external MIDI-in |
 |
play programs either through
the built-in software sampler or through automatic SoundFont downloading
(ensures zero-latency preview) |
 |
precise sound reproduction
both in software-sampler and SoundFont mode: correct mapping, panning,
velocity-switching, accurate envelope and tuning settings. |
 |
full export of all database
contents: samples and audio as .WAV-files, AKAI programs as .SF2-files. |
 |
automatic media recognition:
when inserted into the drive, audio data is taken from the original
media, not from the database (ensures lossless 1:1 exports even from
compressed database contents) |
 |
automatic and fully customizable
splitting mode when uploading audio CDs to the database for convenient
preview of audio track contents |
 |
audio CD tracks and their subregions
('slices') can be named within the database |
 |
powerful searching capabilities:
provides wildcard-based search for samples and programs by name as
well as finding programs by category (drumkits, pads, athmo,...) |
 |
multithreaded reading engine
makes CD uploading fast (down to about 3 minutes per AKAI-CD) |
